La Via Allier the Auvergne cycle route

A characterful route for an invigorating cycling adventure

Covering 455km, following the Allier River from its confluence with the Loire near Nevers to Langogne in the département, or French county, of Lozère, close to the river’s source. This cycle route cutting north-south through the Auvergne starts near the splendid Bec d’Allier, where the Allier merges with the Loire and the Via Allier briefly joins the famed Loire à Vélo cycle route. The Via Allier then leads you upriver, heading south, with a string of heritage treasures to uncover right to the top of the Allier Gorges, close to where the Allier springs up, in the Cévennes Mountains.
